Prof. Jay Taneja, Research Fellow

Jay Taneja is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, U.S.A. At UMass, he leads the STIMA Lab, which studies computing tools to measure and manage infrastructure in Africa, including energy and building systems and transportation, water, and sanitation systems. His team develops and applies systems and techniques using satellite, embedded/Internet-of-Things, mobile systems, and machine learning. He also leads the Energy Growth and Uses in Developing Economies (e-GUIDE) Initiative (www.eguide.io). Before UMass, he spent three years at the IBM Research - Africa lab in Nairobi, Kenya, leading the lab's energy team. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science at UC Berkeley in the U.S.A.
