Information and Communication Technology

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) pursues the ideal of enabling the reliable storage, processing, access, and communication of any type of information at any time from or to any location. It involves the convergence of computing and telecommunications equipment, software, algorithms, networks, and enabling regulatory policies. Because the field is broad, it does not have a single accepted definition but may include elements of computer science, electrical engineering, law, and economics, among others. Researchers at KCRC work in diverse areas including Internet and Internet of Things technology and policy, wireless networks, software development, computer networks, cybersecurity, robotics, mobile applications, smart infrastructure, financial technology, ICT business and entrepreneurship, and mobile health. While researchers in these areas are active worldwide, KCRC is positioned to enable consideration of the particular challenges of ICT for Africa.
