Kigali Collaborative Research Centre (KCRC) Announces Leadership Transition

The general assembly of the Kigali Collaborative Research Centre (KCRC) is pleased to announce changes to its leadership team.

After eight years of dedicated and exemplary service as director of KCRC (August 2018 – June 2026), Professor Tim Brown is stepping down from the role to focus on his responsibilities as interim director of Carnegie Mellon University Africa (CMU-Africa). During his tenure, Professor Brown played a key role in strengthening KCRC's research portfolio, expanding partnerships, and supporting the growth of a vibrant community of researchers. He will remain actively engaged with KCRC as a research fellow.

KCRC is pleased to welcome Dr. R. Subramanian as the new director, starting July 1, 2026. Dr. Subramanian ("Subu") has been a KCRC research fellow since 2017 and brings extensive experience in research, innovation, and scientific leadership. He will lead KCRC in advancing its mission of conducting impactful, interdisciplinary research that addresses important challenges in Rwanda and across Africa.

KCRC also recognizes the outstanding service of Professor Moise Busogi, who served as deputy director from 2022 to 2026. Professor Moise Busogi recently stepped down from the position to focus on his leadership responsibilities with the Upanzi Network at CMU-Africa. His contributions have been instrumental in supporting KCRC's research fellows, partnerships, and organizational growth.

Succeeding him as deputy director is Professor Nathan Williams, a long-standing KCRC research fellow whose expertise and commitment to collaborative research will help guide the Centre's next phase of development.

Reflecting on his time as director, Professor Tim Brown said:

"It has been a privilege to serve as director of KCRC over the past eight years. I am proud of what we have accomplished together through the dedication of our research fellows, staff, partners, and supporters. I look forward to continuing my association with KCRC as a research fellow and supporting its future success."

Incoming Director Dr. R. Subramanian said:

"I am honored to take on the role of director and build upon the strong foundation established by Tim and Moise. KCRC has become an important platform for collaborative, impactful research, and I look forward to working with our research fellows, partners, and stakeholders to further strengthen the Centre's contribution to sustainable development in Rwanda and the broader pan-African region."

Incoming Deputy Director Professor Nathan Williams added:

"KCRC's strength lies in its community of researchers and its commitment to addressing real-world challenges through evidence-based research. I am excited to work alongside Subu and our colleagues as we continue to advance KCRC's mission and impact."

KCRC extends its sincere gratitude to Professors Tim Brown and Moise Busogi for their exceptional leadership and service. The Centre looks forward to building on their achievements under the leadership of Dr. Subramanian and Professor Williams.
